The EU's recent directive, the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), has brought concepts like 'CO2 reporting' and 'carbon accounting' to the forefront.
Damstahl's Climate Calculator is designed to assist our clients in adhering to these regulations and streamlining the accurate measurement and reporting of their CO2 emissions. This is achieved through an intuitive and automated calculation process.
The Climate Calculator is provided free of charge, offering Damstahl customers direct utilization of its features.
NEW feature
The functionalities of the Climate Calculator are continuously updated to remain in sync with current legal requirements and the needs of our customers. In this regard, the tool has recently been enhanced with a new feature, allowing our customers to download a comprehensive history of all purchases from Damstahl, including the respective CO2 footprint for each individual order line. Moreover, customers can find information about the origin country of the steel on the overview, and verify if the specific steel mill has an EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) or LCA (Life Cycle Assessment). We rely on these EPDs and LCAs to ensure that our emission data is more accurate and representative than average values.
In cases where there are no specific emission data available for the product, the calculator utilizes generic data sources such as Exiobase 4. All data is based on the GHG Protocol, which allocates the CO2 footprint into scopes 1, 2, and 3 based on a specific source distribution.
In other words, we have ensured increased transparency of your order data by incorporating them into a guided flow that makes it easy for you as a customer to have an overview of CO2 data at both line and project-based levels.

Through the Climate Calculator, customers can assess not only the CO2 footprint of products purchased from Damstahl, but for all activities within their company's entire value chain. In other words, the Climate Calculator ensures our customers a complete and integrated carbon audit.
At the same time, the calculator can assist our customers in better positioning themselves in the competition for orders, where climate data is crucial for selecting suppliers, and, notably, it simplifies the process for our customers to make informed and sustainable decisions.
In essence, the Climate Calculator enables our customers to understand which activities have the most significant impact on their carbon footprint, ultimately equipping them to set specific reduction goals.

EPD: Environmental Product Declaration - a standardized document that provides detailed information about the environmental impact of a product throughout its lifecycle. It includes data on the product's carbon footprint, energy consumption, resource use, and waste generation, and is third party validated. What we call the “gold standard” of product emission reporting.
LCA: Life Cycle Assessment - a comprehensive method used to evaluate the environmental impacts associated with all the stages of a product's life from raw material extraction through materials processing, manufacture, distribution, use, repair and maintenance, and disposal or recycling. This is the fundament of an EPD, but is not necessarily third party validated.
